The free IDE
A plain IDE for up to 2 projects open at a time, with chat with your own Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI. Archiving a project, or removing it, frees its place.
Codee3 runs your own Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI, signed in with your own account, under that provider’s terms. Gemini CLI is your own copy, unmodified, run in a terminal, under Google’s terms, and Codee3 handles no Google sign-in or token. Gemini CLI may not work on unpaid Google accounts since June 2026. Codee3 never sees your sign-in, and does not provide or resell any AI usage.
The free IDE has the Needs you rail too. When an agent stops to ask you something, such as Codex asking before it runs a command, the question usually shows there, and you can answer it from the rail.
It includes the project brain: creating it, its structure and its routing, read by every agent. It has no agent orchestration (no orchestrators, helpers, orchestration loop or away mode), none of the brain’s checks, and no updater. Orchestration and the brain’s checks come with Founder, the paid plan; checkout isn’t open yet.
By downloading you agree to the Codee3 Free Licence. The privacy notice says what it sends.

What it needs
- Windows, 64-bit (x64). Codee3 is built and run on Windows 11. There is no macOS or Linux download.
- Git for Windows. Codee3 uses Git for every project, and Claude Code on Windows needs its Bash.
- Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI, for AI chat. Installed, and signed in with your own Claude, ChatGPT or Google account.
- Microsoft Edge WebView2. Part of Windows 11. If it is missing, the installer fetches it from Microsoft, which needs an internet connection.
- An internet connection, for AI chat. Chat runs through your AI provider, not through Codee3.
Known issues
- On Windows, the first command in each new Codex session takes a second or two while its sandbox prepares the folder. The very first time Codex runs on a computer, it may take a few minutes to set up its sandbox before your first command starts.
Windows may warn you
The installer is not signed with a code-signing certificate yet, so Windows cannot tell who made it, and may warn you.
If SmartScreen says “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info, then Run anyway.
On some Windows 11 computers, Smart App Control blocks an unsigned installer outright, with no Run anyway. If that happens, this build cannot be installed on that computer yet.
- The free IDE does not update itself. To update, download it again from this page.
- The free IDE and the tester build keep their settings and data in the same folder on your computer.
- To report a problem, open Send diagnostics… in Codee3 and choose Save to a file. It shows you everything first and sends nothing. Then email the file to Hello@Codee3.dev.
- What it sends, and when, is on the privacy page. The free licence is on the terms page.
You got a code from us
You get the full current build, with agent orchestration, the Brain Kit, and chat with your own Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI, through the private link we sent you. It is not on this page.
Known limits
- The orchestration loop, which keeps work moving on its own, is not in it yet.
- Gemini CLI may not work on unpaid Google accounts since June 2026.
- When you open Codee3 again, it doesn’t start the agents of the chats you had open. Start an orchestrator again in Talk and it carries on its last conversation; start helpers again when you need them.
- Known issue: when you start a new agent and press Trust for its folder, its first message can be lost (Claude) or left typed in its box (Codex). Open the agent’s Screen tab: press Enter if your message is waiting there, or type it again.
- Known issue: a Codex agent’s replies show on its Screen tab, not in its chat, and a long message to Codex is sometimes left typed in its box. Open its Screen tab to read replies, and press Enter there if a message is waiting.
- When Claude Code asks you to pick from a list of options, the question appears on its own screen for now: open the chat’s Screen tab and answer there. Other questions and approvals show in Needs you.

- Orchestrators are tested on Claude. You can start one on Codex: it asks your yes in Needs you before using Codee3’s tools, and it hasn’t been tested through a whole piece of work yet. Codex works fully for chats and helpers.
- After a restart, the model goes back to the default; pick it again.
How to install
- Download the installer from the private link we sent you, and run it. Windows may warn you, as above. If Codee3 is already installed, skip this step.
- Open Codee3, then Settings › Updates & diagnostics.
- Under Your code, enter the code we sent you, and press Keep.
- Press Check for updates. If there is a newer build, Codee3 offers to install it.
- Your code is tied to your name. With it kept, Codee3 also checks for updates each time it opens. You can turn that off with Check when Codee3 opens.
- To report a problem, open Send diagnostics… from Settings › Updates & diagnostics. It shows you everything before anything is sent, and files the report under your name. Save to a file sends nothing.
Orchestration and your plan
Agent orchestration runs several agent sessions on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan, sometimes while you are not watching. Anthropic says its Pro and Max usage limits “assume ordinary, individual usage”. Heavy orchestration may go beyond that: it can use up your limits quickly, or be slowed or paused by the provider. For heavy orchestration we suggest an API key. When a plan reaches its limit, its agents wait and carry on when the limit refills; Codee3 does not move them to another account.
By installing the tester build with your code, you agree to the Codee3 tester agreement, which includes the tester licence.
What is not built yet
Published in full rather than omitted. If one of these is what you actually need, Codee3 does not do it yet.
- Anything hosted, continuous or live-syncing. There is no server and no hosted service.
- Cross-repository federation, organisation-wide governance, or multi-tenant capability.
- Semantic drift detection — nothing compares a document’s content against source code.
- Repository source-code analysis: language mix, monorepo topology, build systems, complexity.
- A guided "map my repository" workflow, and a brain:doctor diagnostic.
